ISO DIS 37002 Whistleblowing Management System – Guidelines

Axel Kravatzky

The purpose of ISO 37002 is to provided guidelines for implementing, managing, evaluating, maintaining and improving a robust and effective management system within an organization for whistleblowing.

As mentioned on the ISO/TC309 website page for the standard, this International Standard is non-sector specific and can be used by organizations of all sizes, including SMEs, and those with international operations. It will be applicable to all organizations in the public, private, and voluntary sectors.

The standard is based on the following three principles:

  1. Trust
  2. Impartiality
  3. Protection

and will guide organizations in managing:

  • How concerns of wrongdoing are identified and reported
  • How concerns of wrongdoing are assessed
  • How concerns of wrongdoing are addressed
  • How whistleblowing cases are closed

Syntegra's Dr Axel Kravatzky, is an expert member of the working developing this standard and he is also the Chair of the Trinidad & Tobago Bureau of Standard (TTBS) National Mirror Committee (NMC) for the ISO/TC309 Governance of Organizations. The role of the NMC is to provide the national perspective input and inform TTBS in its participation towards the agreement of an international consensus.

Review ISO/DIS37002 and submit your comments

The ISO / Draft International Standard (DIS) 37002 was issued on June 8, 2020 for review by National Membership Bodies of ISO (in Trinidad & Tobago that is TTBS). We encourage all interested parties to visit the TTBS website and register their interest if they want to review and comment on it. Also, register your interest for Webinars on this topic that the TTBS and NMC will be holding.

This work complements Syntegra's long standing commitment to and development of Business Ethics Programmes within organizations (see also our work within an Inter-American Development Bank's then Investment Corporation financed regional project that produced a toolkit, which we were the lead authors for, and subsequently MOOC on now available for free on IBD's Connect Americas platform).
